When to visit Uzbekistan: a season-by-season guide for Gulf travellers

October 1, 2026·6 min read·Team member 1

Spring and autumn are ideal for the Silk Road cities, summer works with early starts and the mountains, and winter brings snow to Amirsoy. Here is what each season offers.

The best time to visit Uzbekistan is spring (April to June) or autumn (September to November), when days are warm, evenings are cool and walking between monuments is a pleasure. Summer suits travellers who don’t mind heat and plan around it, and winter is the season for snow in the mountains at Amirsoy.

Spring: gardens in bloom

From April the orchards and parks turn green, the mountains near Tashkent still carry snow on their peaks, and the light in Samarkand is soft and clear. Navruz, the spring new year on 21 March, fills streets with music and traditional food just before the season begins. Spring is popular, so booking hotels and Afrosiyob tickets early is wise.

Summer: early starts and mountain air

July and August are hot and dry, especially in Bukhara and Khiva in the desert west. For Gulf families travelling during school holidays it still works well: we sightsee in the early morning and late afternoon, rest through midday, and add cooler days in the mountains around Amirsoy and Chimgan, where green valleys are a welcome change from the city.

Autumn: harvest season

September to November is many travellers’ favourite time. The heat fades, bazaars overflow with grapes, melons and pomegranates, and the golden light suits Khiva’s clay walls and Samarkand’s tiled domes. By late November the evenings become chilly, so pack a warm layer.

Winter: snow and quiet monuments

December to February is cold, with occasional snow in the cities and reliable snow in the mountains. Amirsoy becomes a ski and snow resort, which many Gulf guests enjoy as a first experience of snow. The historic cities are calm, and hotel availability is easier.

Quick summary

  • Spring (Apr–Jun): mild weather, blossoms, ideal for sightseeing.
  • Summer (Jul–Aug): hot; plan early mornings and mountain days.
  • Autumn (Sep–Nov): comfortable weather, harvest bazaars, golden light.
  • Winter (Dec–Feb): cold and quiet; snow at Amirsoy.
